Improvements to PeopleSoft Procurement

Posted by

Marc Weintraub (Senior Director of Product Strategy for PeopleSoft) recently spoke with Alexa Masters (Product Strategy Director, PS Procurement) to talk about the advancement of PeopleSoft Procurement solutions in 9.2.

The three main challenges facing PeopleSoft Procurement organizations today are Spend Creep, Supplier & Contract Compliance, and the Technology to manage the process. In this video, Alexa explains the measures that have been taken to improve the products and meet these challenges for their customers.

Alexa also address the importance of mobility in requisitioning. PeopleSoft, using the FUI, offers an intuitive user experience optimized for smart phones, tablets and even for use on the desktop. This makes procurement a more efficient process from requisitions to approvals and all the way to receiving orders.

There have also been improvements to Supplier Contracts with the addition of the Supplier Contracts Workbench as well as the Sourcing & Contract WorkCenter. By utilizing these new features available to 9.2, customers are able to see vast improvements in their Procurement organizations by reducing risk and improving data management.

Oracle Lifetime Support

oracle lifetime support

If you’re a PeopleSoft customer, you’ve probably run into a bug, or an “unintended feature” of your products and have had to work with Oracle Support to resolve the issue.  You’ve also probably wondered just what is covered by support and for how long. The Oracle Lifetime Support Policy is simple, predictable and flexible. It helps your entire Oracle technology environment stay current and functioning as designed. From database to middleware to applications and hardware, the benefits of the industry’s most comprehensive support coverage are yours as a PeopleSoft customer.

Oracle support comes in three levels:

  1. Premier: This support provides you with maintenance and support of your Oracle Database, Oracle Fusion Middleware, and Oracle|PeopleSoft Applications for five years from their general availability date.
  2. Extended: This support allows you to be in control of your Database, Middleware, and Applications upgrade strategy by providing additional maintenance and upgrades for Oracle Database, Oracle Fusion Middleware, and Oracle Applications at an additional cost to your organization.
  3. Sustaining: This support provides maintenance for as long as you use your Oracle|PeopleSoft software. This will include access to Oracle online support tools, upgrade rights, pre-existing fixes and assistance from technical support experts.

Here’s how the current support schedule plays out. If you are a PeopleSoft Financials customer already on 9.2, your Premier support will run through December of 2024, with the availability of Extended support through December of 2027. However if you still haven’t upgraded (what are you waiting for?) Premier support of your 9.1 PeopleSoft Financial software has expired, and Extended support is only available to you through January 2018.

PeopleSoft Interaction Hub – Selective Adoption

Interaction Hub is Now Using the Selective Adoption Process!

In case you are not aware, as of June of 2015, the PeopleSoft Interaction Hub is now providing updates via the selective adoption process. Customers can take advantage of selective adoption from the Interaction Hub in the same fashion as the PeopleSoft applications.

As with the applications, there are minimal requirements for both the Tools and Interaction Hub versions that customers must be live on in order to take advantage of selective adoption. In order to help customers understand the minimum requirements, Oracle has posted a white paper, “PeopleSoft Interaction Hub is Moving to Selective Adoption” on My Oracle Support. Customers can download the white paper here with your Oracle Support account information.

Also found through My Oracle Support is an Interaction Hub PUM homepage. The release schedule of images are not as frequent as the application images, but for planning purposes they are posted on the homepage. The latest release dates are as follows:

  • Image 2: February 8, 2016
  • Image 3: August 8, 2016
  • Image 4: December 19, 2016

But always be sure to check the homepage for the latest dates.

Follow these instructions to access the Interaction Hub PUM homepage: go to the PeopleSoft Update Manager home page on MOS, then select the PeopleSoft Update Image Home Pages tab, and choose the Interaction Hub Update Image Page. Remember, you will need your user name and password to enter.

Selective Adoption Terminology

There are many terms out there related to selective adoption. In the beginning, the focus was all about PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM). However, PUM is simply one of many tools that help enable selective adoption. Let’s take a few minutes to clear up some definitions to hopefully provide more insight around selective adoption.

Selective Adoption: Selective adoption is the named process by which PeopleSoft customers are able to “selectively” determine how they will apply maintenance and new features as they are delivered approximately every 10 weeks by Oracle. Customers can choose to take everything, nothing or be “selective” in the content they apply to their production instance.

The following are tools that help enable the selective adoption process.

PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM): PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) is a new Lifecycle Management tool that enables PeopleSoft customers to stay current on application maintenance using selective adoption. PUM works with PeopleSoft Change Assistant to facilitate this new process. PUM leverages PeopleSoft Update Images (PIs).

PeopleSoft Update Images (PI): PeopleSoft Update Images are Oracle VM VirtualBox virtual machines that are downloaded from My Oracle Support (MOS) to your system. PI’s are published and released on a specific schedule approximately every 10 weeks. All PI’s will contain bug fixes and most, but not all PI’s, will contain new features/functionality. PI’s are cumulative, meaning PI 14 will contain all of the content from PI 1 through PI 13.

Change Assistant: Oracle’s PeopleSoft Change Assistant is a standalone, Windows based, Java program that orchestrates the process of updating or upgrading your PeopleSoft system. Change Assistance automates many steps of the update process, provides a step-by step-process for applying maintenance and is integrated with PUM using change packages created from the PI. Change Assistant is one of the primary tools in the process of applying maintenance and new features, either taking all content within an image or selectively.

PeopleSoft Test Framework (PTF): A tool that helps automate the testing process and really allows for the more frequent updating and application of PeopleSoft Update Images. PTF automates various tasks within the PeopleSoft application, primarily functional testing. Automating functional testing enables testers to execute more tests with greater accuracy during a shorter time. A good automated testing strategy is essential to having a sound selective adoption maintenance strategy.

Employee Turnover

HCM Position Statement

Since our inception in 2005 we have focused on our employee turnover for many reasons:

  • Employees are our most important asset to us and our customers.
  • We embrace and encourage professional, personal, spiritual balance to attract and retain superior talent.
  • Employee turnover is very costly.
  • Employees often leave in groups.

This article is a great perspective of employee turnover. With all of our focus, we still at times fail at keeping good people.  Sometimes it’s for life style change, better opportunities we cannot match, marriage, kids, school, or we flat out dropped the ball.  In business, effort does not always equal success but we still give it everything we can because the loss of good people is one of the hardest things to accept as an owner.

Very good article. Read it today!

Utilizing PUM to Optimize your PeopleSoft Application

Software providers spend millions of dollars in development every year providing new functionality and enhancing their applications. In the past in order for customers to take advantage of a new functionality or enhancement it generally resulted in the need to complete complex and expensive upgrades. Customers weighed the advantages of these improvements to not only drive business processes but increase business process efficiencies, increase automation, and provide valuable information to decision makers. All of these things are necessary in order for companies to stay competitive. Today, PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) has changed the landscape of how new functionality as well as ongoing maintenance is delivered and PeopleSoft customers are reaping the benefits.

MIPRO has designed a systematic cost-effective Program utilizing the PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM).  Gone are the days of doing an upgrade to stay on the latest platform just to maintain support from the provider. The new updates are more frequent, smaller and easier to deploy.   The sooner you take advantage of software enhancements, the sooner you will begin realizing the benefits. The requirement to realizing these benefits: you must be on PeopleSoft 9.2. If you are not there yet MIPRO can help get you there. Once on PeopleSoft 9.2, you will stay current by systematically doing smaller incremental updates by utilizing the PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) tool and the Selective Adoption model. Staying current can be a streamlined process and MIPRO is ready to assist you.

MIPRO is passionate about all things PeopleSoft and we look forward to working with you to unlock all the value within your ERP investment. Email us today for more information.

PeopleSoft Selective Adoption

It’s More Than Just a Series of Mini-Upgrades!

PeopleSoft Selective Adoption will be a hot topic at the upcoming Oracle OpenWorld conference in San Francisco from October 25th-October 29th. While a significant number of customers have moved to PeopleSoft 9.2, a lot of them are still struggling to define their strategy for Selective Adoption. Many of the customers I’ve spoken with have not applied an image since completing the upgrade and their strategy going forward is to move to the latest image every year or two.   The reason? They feel their end-users are too busy to evaluate the new features and functionality delivered in an image. The problem? Customers are missing out on one of the most significant changes in Oracle’s delivery model – the ability to introduce new features and functionality into your business processes faster and more efficiently than in the past. With Selective Adoption, customers now have the ability to pick and choose new enhancements that can significantly add business value without having to wait on the next major release or an upgrade of the entire system. The customers who take the time to understand this delivery model, are willing to embrace it, and align their organization to adopt the change will be the ones to achieve the maximum benefit from their software investment.

MIPRO will be at Oracle OpenWorld participating on Marc Weintraub’s panel: Real-World Experiences with PeopleSoft Selective Adoption, Monday, October 26th at 1:30pm, Moscone West – 3016 and co-presenting with our customer Susan G. Komen: Leveraging PeopleSoft Selective Adoption at Susan G. Komen on Monday, October 26th at 2:45pm, Moscone West – 3016. We hope you will be able to join us for these presentations. In addition, MIPRO consulting offers a focused 1-day Selective Adoption workshop designed to help you understand the delivery model, build your strategy and align your organization to maximize its value.

Don’t get left behind in an old mind set of fixes, bundles, maintenance packs, service packs, and full system upgrades. MIPRO is here to help you embrace the change and accelerate your organization’s adoption for greater business value.

PeopleSoft is NOT Dead!

Did you attend RECONNECT 2015, in Rosemont, Illinois? If your answer is “yes,” then you know what a great event it was. If your answer is “no,” we don’t want you miss out on one of our favorite parts.

Wednesday morning the day kicked off with the Oracle keynote in which Marc Weintraub, Senior Director of Product Strategy for PeopleSoft, addressed some of the most common questions from PeopleSoft customers and partners, as well as provided an update on the state of PeopleSoft.

Some key takeaways from Marc which MIPRO firmly believes & supports:

  • PeopleSoft is NOT dead.
  • Organizations need to understand Selective Adoption.
  • PeopleTools is more important than ever!
  • PeopleSoft 9.2 adoption rates are high.
  • PeopleSoft information is everywhere!

If you missed the keynote at RECONNECT Marc is hosting a PeopleSoft Townhall session, today, September 9th 2:00 pm EST. Click the link below to register for the Townhall Session: Everything You wanted to Know about PeopleSoft but Were Afraid to Ask.

Gartner Confirms MIPRO’s Commitment to PeopleSoft

Posted by

peoplesoft oracle

In 2005, MIPRO made a commitment to the PeopleSoft platform and the organizations that use the PeopleSoft solution. Over the years we’ve tested the waters of other solutions, but we continued to come back to our passion – PeopleSoft.

In Michael Guay’s April 20, 2015 assessment he confirms what we’ve observed over the past few years. Despite rumors of PeopleSoft’s demise, Oracle’s commitment is solid and organizations should evaluate the PeopleSoft solution as they would any ERP suite.

Guay’s analysis goes on to say that PeopleSoft is as viable as most other ERP suites. With all the talk about the cloud, which can deliver real benefits, those who have invested in PeopleSoft can have the best of both worlds utilizing the newest technology and functionality found in the latest 9.2 release or by adopting cloud point solutions if they are looking to test the cloud approach.

The article’s summary encapsulates it well; driven by rumors and questions regarding Oracle’s commitment to the PeopleSoft suite, ERP leaders are uncertain about its future. But ERP leaders must separate rumor from fact, understand Oracle’s roadmap and plan for PeopleSoft, and evaluate the suitability of PeopleSoft for their organizations within a postmodern ERP strategy.

The Importance of Strong Customer Relationships

relationship

For my entire career I have worked to build strong customer relationships.  I do so in various ways:

  • First, I add value to the company; without doing so everything else is irrelevant.
  • Second, I take a sincere interest in my contact’s professional goals. Over time, I talk to them about their accomplishments and failures.
  • Lastly, I take an interest in them personally: kids, marriage, vacations, family, etc.

We all come to work every day looking to accomplish something.  I personally have found that building great relationships is as rewarding as building a great company.

This article puts some data and numbers behind Brand vs. Relationships.  I just grin knowing that I might be doing something right.
