PeopleTools 8.5: Query Drilling URL

In the release of PeopleTools 8.5, a new feature for Query Manager called Drilling URL was released.  Drilling URL allow the query results to hyperlink or drill down into the source data.  The query results page shows the results as “links” which can, depending on how the URLs are defined, allow the user to access a PIA page, another query results page or an external link.  This is a very interesting and valuable feature which really provides the query tool the ability to drill down into details without having to write down information, navigate to new pages or run new queries.  It also allows embeddable pagelets on the home page to not only act as dashboards, but drill down into the details which is what a good dashboard is supposed to do.

Sounds simple? It is, but that completely understates its convenience and power. After getting used to Drilling URLs for even a few hours, it’s a massive pain to go back to a system where you don’t have them.

Below is a link to a short video where we explain in simple details how to create a basic Drilling URL. Enjoy.

Is there a limit how many drilling URLs we can create in a query? Say we have 20 columns and we want each column to have drilling URL. Any drawbacks with this idea? Thanks in advance.
